For the third year in a row, Musicanova Choir took part in the Baroque Festival, renewing its participation to the Palestrina project.
The Baroque Festival event, now at its 10th edition, consisted in a series of concerts and musical meetings which took place in the Baroque part of Rome. The Festival celebrates the integration between traditional Italian music of the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries and Italian Baroque architecture such as Palazzi, churches, oratories, monumental libraries of the Eternal City, which remain intact and well preserved, being able to impart to the contemporary society the festive rituals and the tangible and unescapable spirit of the great Italian Baroque tradition.
The 2017 programme presented a vast calendar of events with unreleased and rare pieces, entrusted to prestigious performers.
Musicanova Choir participated with the performance of the Mass “Fratres ego enim accepi”, an eight voices piece for double choir. The Mass had never been executed before and is one of the masterpieces by the renowned Italian composer Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, pillar of choral music of the Renaissance.
The Choir performed in two distinct dates: Saturday November 25th in the evocative Basilica of Santa Cecilia, in the Trastevere neighbourhood in the centre of Rome, with the female choir Eos who performed two unreleased motets; Sunday November 26th in the Chiesa del Gesù, a Baroque jewel in Frascati, this time accompanied by the DeCanter Choir, renewing their collaboration for the second year in a row. DeCanter Choir also took part in the festival, with the execution of three motets by Francisco Guerrero, selected by the collection “Canciones y Villanescas Espirituales”, completing the Mass.
The Festival is not only a contemporary opportunity to the enjoyment of the rituality of Baroque music, but it is also a collective workshop of anthropologic history, which continues to amaze the contemporary audience for its capability of social integration and symbolic compatibility of differences.
